I received three lovely stories, all Severus Snape/Regulus Black - which is excellent, since we can always use more Severus/Regulus!

Dear Chocolatier,

Sorry about my request details being semi-sparse; I signed up at the last minute. I'm a last-minute kinda person, really. But! Hopefully this letter makes up for all that.

Anyways, hi! I'm Grave (ao3 user graveExcitement (arachnids)). Thanks in advance for writing for me; I'm sure I'll be happy with whatever you choose to write. I've managed to come up with some prompts, things I like, etc., but feel free to ignore them or only use part of them - whatever inspires you is cool with me! In fact, I'm probably going to go into more detail than is warranted for a low-commitment exchange like this one, but whatever :P

Before all that, here are my Do Not Wants:
Do Not Wants / Favored Tropes )
Now, more detail on my requests (in no particular order):

3. Harry Potter: Regulus Black/Severus Snape || Draco Malfoy/Harry Potter )

ETA 1/14: I am so sorry that I didn't finish this until now! I have issues with anxiety and depression that makes it hard to get things done sometimes... ;-;
In conclusion, I hope that you are inspired, and I am excited to see what you write for me! Good luck, and have fun!

Dear Yuletide Author,

OK so this has been a wild ride already, and it's only sign-ups! First, I'm already a bit rushed because I'm signing up at the last minute; I mean, I started narrowing down which fandoms I was gong to offer/request a few days ago, but I only actually started signing up tonight, which. MISTAKE. I mean, writing request prompts is practically the hardest part of any fic exchange, and this is my first Yuletide, and I left it until the last few hours. And then on top of that, my laptop just crashed in the middle of writing my requests and this letter; thanks to some Chrome or AO3 magic, I didn't lose my sign-up (thank god) but I did lose my previous letter, so.

Anyways, hi! I'm Grave. Thanks so much in advance for writing for me; I'm certain that I will be super happy with whatever you choose to write for me. I've managed to come up with some stuff in the way of prompts, but feel free to ignore them or only use part of them; whatever inspires you is cool!

That said, I'll take a moment to go into my Do Not Wants. They're pretty simple and apply for all of my requests: I don't want abuse, non-con, watersports, scat, or bestiality. With abuse, referencing/mentioning it is fine, I just don't want it to be focused on. I don't want non-con but I am fine with some dub-con, like sex pollen or other mind-altering substances.

Now I'll go into my requests, which I am listing in no particular order:

1. Lumberjanes - Any Character(s) )

2. Stardew Valley - Abigail, Player )

3. Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri - Deirdre Skye, Corazon Santiago )

4. Imperial Radch - Translator Zeiat, Gem of Sphene, Justice of Toren One Esk Nineteen | Breq )

Okay, I may end up writing some additional thoughts on these requests, but it's 3:42 AM here so I'm kind of burned out. If I do, it'll be within a day or two.

In conclusion, I hope that you are inspired, and I am excited to see what you write for me! Good luck, and have fun - I plan to!

So first of all, I'd just like to say: whatever you choose to write, I'm gonna be super happy with it. Even out of the friendships I asked for, I don't have any real preference to which one(s?) you choose to write for. This is my first Star Trek fanfic exchange; all the ones I've done in the past have been for Homestuck, and I am definitely excited to see what you come up with.

As I mentioned in my request blurb, I was basically introduced to Star Trek through the AOS, and I asked for friendships that include characters that are in both TOS and AOS. I am definitely fond of their AOS incarnations, but I understand if the reboot 'verse is not your thing; feel absolutely free to write TOS.

Now, here's some totally optional stuff for you to build off of if you're not sure where to start: I like fluff, and hurt/comfort. I like all sorts of AUs. I'm not super into angst, but drama is totally cool. If you do decide to go for AOS: you can set the fic during academy-era, during the travels of the Enterprise, or even during either movie!

Need further inspiration? Add cybernetic enhancements.

But like I said, all of this is optional. You write what you are inspired to write, friend.

Good luck, and have fun! I plan to.

For anything you can imagine, there are things infinitely huger, and infinitely smaller as well. Whatever first comes to mind when you think of the word huge - a football field, an ocean, a star - there is always something yet bigger - and if you jump all the way to the size of the universe, well. The universe grows bigger each moment, and there may be things bigger yet.

As for small - when you think of small, what do you picture? A mouse? A pebble? There are things thousands, millions of times smaller. A cell, a DNA strand. And even when you go all the way down to the atom, we have discovered things smaller still. Even an electron is not the smallest thing we know. And even now we are in the midst of discovering things smaller still.

We might be predisposed to view ourselves as the exact middle: neither big nor small, but medium. But to ants, we are giants - and to bacterium, we are their entire worlds. Just as one human is infinitesimally smaller than the Earth, so a single electron is vastly smaller than a cell; and as a human being can scarcely imagine the scale of the universe, so an atom cannot compare even to a human being. It is only due to our viewpoint that we see the redwood trees as large, when they are overshadowed even by mere mountains, which themselves could not hope to fill the depths of our oceans.

Peer into a canyon, stare into a galaxy; examine a fingernail, squint at blood cells, underneath a microscope. And to a tree, we are not even the largest animals the world has to offer - yet most trees would be (are) swallowed up by our cities, with few exceptions.

We use needle and thread to sew cloth together; so do muscle cells bind us together, and the unseen forces of gravity bind Earth in orbit of the sun.

For every star in the sky you can name, there are stars thousands of times greater in size, and greater yet are the scope of galaxies, so huge we have trouble truly understanding and imagining them. What does it mean to you when I say our own galaxy is 9.5 x 10^17 kilometers (or 100,000 light years) in diameter? Nothing. We can hardly conceptualize how huge our own star is; how are we to grasp the scale of a universe?

How does a grain of sand compare to the greatness of the savanna? It does not. But that grain of sand is vaster still than any one of the components that make it up. We can at least see a grain of sand without needing to improve our vision in any way; the same cannot be said for an atom, or even a cell.

All this is repetitions of this one truth. Numbers grow infinitely larger, both positive and negative, and infinitely smaller as well; infinitely approaching ∞, -∞ or 0 respectively. We know this to be true in math, but it holds true outside it as well, or close enough to true. The universe is infinitely huger, and infinitely smaller, than we can accurately imagine.

And if you protest, that we can imagine it - well. The oceans alone are vast and deep. Glaciers and icebergs look big on the surface, but are many times larger than they first appear. The sun can hold a million Earths within it - and you say you can grasp the vastness of the universe? Imagine the universe. Go ahead. Imagine it as great and deep and wide as you can conceive it. It is huger still than that.

And as for the other end of the spectrum? We think of cells as the smallest component of the body. Yet within cells lie organelles, and in one of these organelles are tiny strands of DNA - and DNA is made up of smaller parts still. Can you imagine the size of an atom? You can not.

What is applied to space, can be applied to time as well. Every length of time can be halved, and halved again. We have microseconds, nanoseconds - and the history of our universe is measured in billions of years. A song only lasts a few minutes, but that does not lessen the impact it has on your ears. Indeed, few would wish to listen to a song that lasts for a year. Our lifetimes last for many of these years, but many of us do not even reach a hundred, A month can seem a while, but it passes so fast. So does a season; so does a year. Perhaps Rent said it best:

Five-hundred twenty-five thousand six hundred minutes,
five-hundred twenty-five thousand moments so dear,
five-hundred twenty-five thousand six hundred minutes,
how do you measure, measure a year?

Some call our current time the Information Age. There is a wealth of information, data, to be found on the web. It would be difficult to construct a search term so specific that nothing on the subject can be found online. Billions of words, images, videos, and code. Messages, stories, data values. The sum of human knowledge, and yet it is more than simply a widely-accessible database; it is a vehicle for communication the likes of which this world has never before seen.

And yet, in this vast gulf of information, a paltry few hundred thousand words can make a great impact; a pearl, found in the sea. Or perhaps the words that most resonate will be fewer still:

a great abyss
the ground where
      once were
now disappears

So I procrastinate a lot. It's a bad habit of mine - almost certainly my worst habit. But strangely enough, I've only really started caring about it and thinking about it a lot this year - calendar year, I mean. Not that I didn't recognize it as a bad thing before, but I didn't see it as very important. Now I do.

Because not only does procrastination hurt me in school (though it doesn't always - a lot of times I can pull it off, and thus procrastinating next time becomes easier to justify), but it means I don't do things I actually want to do - mainly creative things, like writing and drawing.

I want to be a writer. This is my current ambition, though I have a back-up ambition of doing something to do with computers and possibly videogames. The problem is, I don't write nearly enough. Fiction, I mean - though things like this are all too rare as well. And see, the best advice I've seen on writing - it says to write a lot. Except in better language. Here:

Here is what advice I can offer you from the path I have taken: write like a goddamn maniac for somewhere between ten years and the rest of your life. Write what you love, and, more importantly, write what you are ashamed of loving. Get pen names so that you don’t have to be ashamed. Write anonymously so you can stroll away from your failures without regret. Go places no one knows you. Write as catharsis and escape. Write as celebration. Write to fuck the police. Research your butt off. Question everything you think you know, most of it is guaranteed wrong and the rest of it wouldn’t be hurt by double-checking. Talk to people! Read shit. Read about writing. Pretend like you are other people and experiment with styles. Be kind and friendly. Write sweet things and horrible things and scary things and sexy things. Have a lot of projects at once so you never have an excuse to not be writing. Also, read a lot of shit at once so you never have an excuse to not be thinking.

Do all this forever. At some point you will find that you are good at it! You probably won’t be happy. If you were a happy sort of person in the first place you wouldn’t have started writing. You will always feel scared and tired; you will always feel as if you have a hole inside you that everything good drains away through, and nothing truly beautiful or worthy remains. This is why you spent ten years or the rest of your life wrapped up in other people’s problems.

The end.

That was from roachpatrol. And it is great and amazing advice and I first saw it like months ago and I haven't taken it. I have written more than I was writing before, but that doesn't mean much when I was hardly writing at all before and now I'm writing a little bit more than that. I have to write! Writing is my dream and my passion and if I don't throw myself into it I'll be disappointed in myself. I'm disappointed in myself every damn day. Every night when I go to sleep I feel uneasy and disappointed and frustrated and sad. Because I didn't write. More than that - I didn't do anything I consider worth my time. I didn't write, I didn't draw, I didn't read, I didn't think.

So hopefully the Homestuck Shipping Olympics will help motivate me and be helpful. But I can't rely on that alone. I can't rely on anything, any motivation, unless I myself put my willpower into it. Unfortunately, my willpower has never been very reliable. But I have to ignore that, because damn it, I have to write!

I suppose I should probably have at least one post here, huh? I made an account here at dreamwidth just for the Homestuck Shipping Olympics, and I have to say I am quite excited. A bit nervous, too, because what if I don't produce anything approaching good for my team? And also I'll be gone for a fair bit of the HSO, which is sad. But mostly I'm excited. It seems likely I'll be getting my first choice, Terezi♥Vriska. So that's pretty awesome.

I have to say, so far Dreamwidth looks pretty good. Everything's organized nicely and whatnot. Easy to use. So that's good! Maybe I'll use it for more than just the HSO, haha. Then again... maybe not.
