media consumption

these days i am in the midst of consuming 3 series:
-she-ra and the princesses of power, with my friend S -star wars: the clone wars, with my parents -and the magnus archives, by myself
am enjoying she-ra thus far; i didn’t expect to actually watch it until S suggested it, so i made no effort to avoid spoilers, and some of said spoilers made me more interested in watching it (tho i still wasn’t motivated to do so until S suggested we watch together.) catra is fun, and i like entrapta. hordak intrigues me (partly due to the spoilers i’d seen previously.)
the clone wars is another series i never really felt motivated to watch on my own, so it was cool when my mom suggested subscribing to disney plus so we could watch it. (she’s a big The Mandalorian fan.) we’re watching in the chronological watch order instead of episode order cause i vaguely remembered that chronological was a thing. so far it’s like, it’s light but not as in-depth as she-ra. if it gains more depth (which i’ve fandom-osmosised the impression that it does), great; if not, at least i have a better idea of who exactly Cody and Rex and Fives all are (i’d always just osmosed them through fanfic.)
finally, the magnus archives. i’d actually been working on this one for a while, i think i listened to the first handful of eps back in like february, when i was still attending class in person. but my pace was ultra slow. it wasn’t until i saw an intriguing fic recced and read it that my attention was truly grabbed, and after that i felt motivated to listen at a much quicker rate. i finished season one the other day and i’m five episodes into season two.
in some ways, the spoilers i inevitably learned are i guess taking away some of the mystery, but they also got me intrigued enough to listen more / at more than my previous glacial pace, so... i’m okay with it. i mean it’s kind of a theme with all 3 of these; i fandom-osmosised spoilers about them all, either through reading fic or not bothering to add it to tumblr savior. but i’m enjoying them regardless.
also man like i like the magnus archives but podcasts... podcasts... my audio processing ain’t great lmao. by which it means i am very incapable of multitasking while listening to a podcast. i used to like podcasts when in the car or on bus/train, but i don’t commute anywhere now. now my prime podcast time is when doing the dishes, because menial labor is one of the few things i can do that will still let me focus on podcasts. i can also go for a walk, at least when it’s not 102 F outside like today. or i can... sit there and play with my fidget cube. or lie in bed staring at my room in the dark.
anything that involves reading, or a videogame more complex than Mini Metro, or texting, those are all right out. (technically i can read the transcript but i inevitably end up reading ahead and not really hearing the audio and that’s missing the whole point.) i don’t even like to look at my phone because reading a text might disrupt my audio processing and replying definitely would. which again makes dishes ideal, because i cannot check my phone.
i do get a little antsy bc i can’t binge it quite like i’d like to, if it were a book or a fanfic. my reading speed is quite fast, so listening — and listening under the above conditions, i might add, so i can’t just listen whenever — feels slow sometimes. but just reading the transcript isn’t quite the same. so i press on. enjoying it tho!
