At one point, there was a building (dorm + dining hall) at my school that had a men's room on the main floor and a women's room in the basement. But they moved coed housing into that building and enough people pointed out how awful the bathroom arrangement was, so they made both those bathrooms gender neutral, despite both being stalled bathrooms. There were outsiders who hated/were uncomfortable with it, but honestly I thought it was awesome 1.) not having to go down to the basement and 2.) letting other people have the opportunity to experience what is an an everyday occurrence for trans folks: sharing a public bathroom with people of other genders.
