where is it?

today i played Hollow Knight for a fair few hours. i'm enjoying it so far! i really like the aesthetic and the exploration aspect. i'm slowly getting better at combat, but i'm still pretty clumsy with platforming. stop judging me, little brother! i grew up on PC games!

(how long have i been playing Civilization? well, today i found an ancient note in which ~5 yr old me spelled it "civelazation")

yesterday i mentioned i wasn't sure where my current bullet journal had wandered off to

at the time i was still half suspecting it was buried somewhere in the detritus of my computer desk in the front room (where i spend most of my time), but i have now cleaned it (most of it; i'll do the rest tomorrow, but it's already mostly clean anyhow) and it is nowhere to be seen. this means it is probably hiding in my room somewhere instead, but 1) i did at least two-thirds-heartedly look around in there and didn't see it, 2) i recently reorganized the books in my room with a friend's help, so that's one less place it could be hiding (the bookstacks, that is.)

also missing, it turns out, is my most recent sketchbook. i don't think i drew in it more than two or three times before misplacing it, which is why i forgot it was gone. & it's much bigger than the missing bullet journal, so it's also a little more confusing. i've only noticed these disappearances this week but they likely have been out of sight for a few months.

ideas:

• both of them could be in my room, just in the depths of my desk/drawers/somewhere else weird and cluttered
• the sketchbook might have accidentally been taken by my sister (or put in her room by a parent)
• either could have been misplaced in one of the family vehicles
• ???

ETA 1.5 HRS LATER: i walked in my room, glanced around, and thought “huh, i wonder if they’re in my old lumberjanes messenger bag that’s sitting next to the door?” and there they were. now i can properly hem and haw over whether to complete this bullet journal or shelve it and start the next one. (apparently it’s been nearly 8 months since i last bujo’d >.<)

anyone else lost anything recently?

This is so cute! My brother and I used to play Civilization II when we were kids, and we made our own units: a poorly drawn car with the words 'WE LIKE CAR' hovering around it to make it clear that it was a car, and bright red volcano slugs that exploded violently and turned the entire area radioactive if you told them to attack anything.

that's adorable omg. i honestly dig the radioactive volcano slugs lmao, i feel like they could've fit in Civilization II: Test of Time

(Test of Time is like, lowkey the most cryptid Civ II clone/expansion? and that's saying a lot, since it has Civilization: Call to Power for competition. those two civs were the first ones i played, which is weird cause again, cryptids.

idk if you played either, but Test of Time had... fantasy and sci-fi modes? which were i think half reskins of the regular game, and half weird shit. i did like the thing it did where you could travel to (and colonize!) different dimensions or planets from the one you started on. at least, i presume that wasn't in the original civ II...)

We had the Fantastic Worlds expansion, which also had fantasy and sci-fi versions, and it was great. I think that expansion was what allowed us to access the unit editor, too.

Civilization II was a perpetual test of how long you could be bothered to play properly before you gave in and turned on the cheats. I never won a game legitimately.

nice! honestly i still can’t get enough of sci-fi civ, but these days that mostly means i play Alpha Centauri when the mood strikes (which is fair because it is the best)

as a kid i was rather strait-laced; i don’t think i touched the cheats, though i’m also not sure how many of my Test of Time games i actually finished.

What system are you playing Hollow Knight on? Because I am a PC gamer and have played at least some of it in stubborn denial of that it in theory plays better on consoles, due to me not having any and also bring bad at their controls.

i’m playing it on Switch, because my brother bought it on Switch. he actually also has it on PC, but it’s easier for me to access it on switch than on my brother’s computer (plus my gaming laptop is on the fritz).

tbh, i do think i have improved since i first picked up the game a few weeks ago! most evident in combat tho.

i think i got it from WeLoveFine (now ForFansByFans) -- it's designed so you can swap out the front flap with a different one, but this was the only one i got. these days i usually use a plain backpack, because it's easier on the shoulders/back than a messenger bag when carrying heavy books/etc.

That's cute! I haven't really been into Lumberjanes since Stevenson stopped writing but the first few of the series were so good.
